ESTHER FILMING PLAN

We must shift our plans for performances to a brand-new strategy. It seems it will still be unwise to hold live performances with large audiences by July 16th, and Paramount will very likely still be operating at reduced gathering size for worship services at that time. Therefore, we will instead film the production (in pieces) and release it digitally at a later date. We are working toward a virtual-performance weekend of mid-August. Details about the release/availability process are still being finalized, but we will have more information about that soon.

IMPORTANT!: A COVID-19 Liability Waiver is required prior to participating in classes or filming. This Waiver is in your Parent Portal (Waivers icon --> COVID-19 Liability Waiver tab). REOPENING GUIDELINES

We are very hopeful that most of these requirements are TEMPORARY. We ask for your full cooperation and understanding that the health of your dancers and of our staff is of highest priority to us.

Participation Requirements

  • Every parent must have accepted the NEW waiver in the Parent Portal. No dancer will be able to participate if their account shows no waiver agreement.
  • DO NOT ATTEND if anyone in the household is running a fever or showing any other symptoms identified by the CDC as potential COVID-19 symptoms:
      • Fever or chills
      • Cough
      • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
      • Fatigue
      • Muscle or body aches
      • Headache
      • New loss of taste or smell
      • Sore throat
      • Congestion or runny nose
      • Nausea or vomiting
      • Diarrhea
  • NOTIFY Doxa by texting (806) 414-1241 or by email doxadanceministry@gmail.com if your dancer or anyone in your household begins to exhibit symptoms.
  • DO NOT ATTEND if you have had known exposure to someone testing positive for COVID-19 within the 14 days prior to classes resuming or anytime after that point. Please contact us immediately if you become aware that you had exposure to a known case of COVID-19.
  • Make sure your Parent Portal account has a Phone Number listed.
  • No one will be required to wear a mask. Wearing a facial cloth covering is optional and each parent should decide if they feel it is beneficial to send their dancer with one.

Drop-off

  • Please have your dancer use the restroom as close to class time as possible before arriving at the building. Of course we will still allow bathroom breaks as necessary, but the fewer the better!
  • Do not arrive more than 15 minutes prior to class time.
  • All students must use Entrance B4 (Terrace Street).
  • Parents can walk young students inside to the downstairs B4 foyer area where a Parent Volunteer will check their temperature with a no-contact thermometer.
  • ANY STUDENT WITH A TEMPERATURE HIGHER THAN 100.4 WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO STAY AND WILL NEED TO BE TAKEN HOME IMMEDIATELY. Once a student is cleared, they will be taken by a class assistant or teacher up to the studio. You may wait in the foyer area with your dancer until the teacher/assistant comes to get the class. Parents will need to exit the building at that point - there will be no indoor waiting spaces available. No Paramount Activity Center playzones are open at this time.
  • If you drop your student off at the street, please wait nearby for a few minutes to ensure they passed the temperature test before driving away. We will call you at the phone number listed in your parent portal if your child does not pass the temperature test.
  • A young student should keep only their ballet shoes with them. Please do not let your child walk outside in their ballet shoes (this is an all-the-time rule!) because it tracks dirt into the studios and wears out their shoes faster. They will change shoes (with teacher/assistant help if needed) once upstairs, and then will have their street shoes to put back on after class. Please do not send extra bags, backpacks, or extra clothing items upstairs with your child.

Pick-Up

  • All students must be picked up curbside outside Entrance B7 (along Mays Street - south side of building B). This allows for a one-way traffic pattern in the studio hallway. At the end of class, the class will change their shoes and be escorted by the class assistant, teacher, or volunteer to this location.
  • Please arrive at least 5 minutes before the end time of your child’s class. This is critical for the process to work smoothly for everyone.
      • Please remember that classes are 5 minutes shorter than they were during the school year. This allows for the pick-up process to occur outside.
      • Example: a 4:00 Sweet Peas class (normally 45 minutes) will end at 4:40. Parents need to be outside by 4:35.
  • Parents can remain on-site in their cars if they prefer.
  • Students who drive themselves are encouraged to park in the ORANGE parking lot across Mays Street from B7. When they arrive, they will walk down the sidewalk along Terrace Street to the B4 entrance. When they leave via B7, their car will be easily accessible.

Drop-off and Pick-up procedures will work the same way for class days and filming times.

Social Distancing & Hygiene

Due to the nature of dance class and the size of our facilities, it is not feasible for a teacher to maintain complete social distancing for the entirety of the classroom experience. The following efforts are intended to limit person-to-person contact as much as possible.

  • Arrive dressed for class with limited belongings (cover-ups are still required for Intermediate & Upper School).
  • The water fountain will not be available. Older dancers should bring their own water bottle. Younger dancers should only bring a water bottle if absolutely necessary, but parents are encouraged to have one for them after their class.
  • Dancers will see marked, spaced locations for bags/shoes in waiting area and hallways. Chairs in the waiting room are spaced and marked - please do not move the chairs. The couch, ottoman, and books have been removed.
  • Please do not greet one another or your teacher with hugs or contact of any kind. We look forward to giving our sweet students hugs soon! Right now we will ask everyone to keep their distance from one another.
  • Teachers will not give stickers at the end of classes.
  • Teachers may adjust choreography in minimally-confusing ways to increase spacing wherever possible.
      • Teachers will avoid using practice props in the classroom. Any items that are used will be cleaned immediately following that class.
  • Hand sanitizer is available in each studio and in the waiting room. Each dancer will be given a spritz when they enter the studio and then again at the end of class.
  • Bathrooms are a space where social distancing is difficult to maintain. No more than three people should be in the bathroom at the same time. Arriving dressed and with hair done will help alleviate crowding in the bathroom.
  • Cloth face coverings are optional but recommended in hallways and bathrooms where social distancing is not easily maintained.

Additional Cleaning Procedures

  • Paramount implemented quarterly Germ-X treatment in many facility locations including the Doxa waiting room, bathrooms and hallway. This treatment provides improved protection for up to 90 days.
  • Teachers will wipe down the barres and door handles after each class unless not used for the prior class.
  • The studio floors will be mopped three times per week: Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday by teachers. Mopping solution is ProClean D Plus (EPA Reg No. 1839-95) which is listed as a product that can be used against SARS-CoV-2. ProClean D Plus meets EPA’s criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes the disease COVID-19.
  • Regularly weekly scheduled cleanings of the bathroom by maintenance staff will continue.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

As you read the guidelines, you will notice we have a major need for parent volunteers to make this reopening possible. Please consider donating your time for one or more shifts to conduct no-contact student temperature checks at the door. Your volunteer time does not necessarily have to correlate with your dancer's class time if it is easier for you to come at another time without children. Please note that if we have insufficient volunteer response, we will unfortunately not be able to proceed as planned. We feel very strongly about this aspect of the safety guidelines due to the nature of dance classes. If your schedule allows you to take several shifts, we would be so grateful!

CLASS SCHEDULE CHANGES

It is necessary for us to make some schedule changes at this time.

  • Classes are shortened by 5 minutes: these 5 minute intervals between classes allow for wiping down surfaces and walking students to the parent pick-up location.
  • Some classes have changed studios, due to class size (and size of studio). Teachers/assistants will guide your dancers to the correct studio for their class.
      • Monday morning classes have moved into Garden Studio.
      • Tuesday early afternoon classes have moved into Garden and Meadow Studios.
      • Capacity of classes will be based on studio size, not level:
        • Arbor (Small): 8
        • Garden (Medium): 12
        • Meadow (Large): 16
  • Saplings class on Sundays needs to return to the 2:15 pm start time.
  • No Adult Class will be offered during this summer session.
  • No Monday 10:00 am Bitty Bonnets (Mommy & Me) - enrollees can choose from:
      • Thursday 9:30 am
      • Monday 6:00 pm
  • No Monday 10:30 am or Sunday 3:00 pm Rosebuds - enrollees can choose from:
      • Monday 3:45 pm
      • Wednesday 9:30 am
      • Wednesday 4:45 pm
      • Thursday 11:30 am
  • No Partnering Classes will be held on Sundays and Fridays. This portion will be removed from students’ tuition. These time slots may be used for rehearsals for character roles / upper school scenes.
  • Conditioning Classes will occur at half-capacity because of their size and use of equipment. Students enrolled in these classes will be assigned either June 16th and 30th OR June 23rd and July 7th as follows:
      • Conditioning I - Last Names beginning A-G come first and third weeks (6/16 & 6/30); Last Names beginning H-Z come second and fourth weeks (6/23 & 7/7)
      • Conditioning II - Last Names beginning A-L come first and third weeks (6/16 & 6/30); Last Names beginning M-Z come second and fourth weeks (6/23 & 7/7)
      • Students will still have access to recorded conditioning classes in the Parent Portal and are encouraged to do one at home during their “off” weeks if possible.
  • Sunday classes will still NOT meet on Father’s Day (June 21st) and will meet July 12th.

Please have your dancer CONTINUE TO PRACTICE THEIR CHOREOGRAPHY with the videos provided in your Parent Portal (under Shared Files) - the better the dancers remember their choreography, the easier it will be when we reconvene our classes!

Filming Days Checklist

This filming process will be quite involved and we need the utmost cooperation from everyone. Space does not allow for parents to watch the filming process, but we will look forward to getting the digital performance to you as soon as possible!

 As a parent, we need you to:

  •  Provide Attire Basics for your dancer (see section below).
  • Bring your dancer to their assigned filming time wearing these items with regular clothing over.
  • Make sure your dancer's hair is performance-ready. Makeup is optional for younger dancers but some is highly encouraged due to filming.
  • Remember your dancer's ballet shoes!
  • Arrive 15 minutes early for temperature check. Use Entrance B4 (Terrace Street side) just like for classes.

  • Dancers will be taken upstairs to the dressing rooms (studios) by a teacher, assistant, or volunteer. We will help them change into their costume. It is crucial that dancers come completely ready other than putting their costume on over their attire basics.
  • Feel free to leave and come back. Please arrive 5 minutes earlier than your dancer's scheduled finish time. Pick-up will be at Entrance B7, just like classes. 
  • If we finish with your dancer's filming significantly prior to their end time (possible for Sweet Peas and Buttercups) we will text you to let you know. Please be sure you have an accurate phone number listed in your parent portal account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the filming taking place?

We are using the Paramount Activity Center gym for filming. Dancers will use the studios as dressing rooms, and all drop-off/pick-up procedures work the same way for classes and filming days.

Can parents watch filming?

Unfortunately, no. Space does not allow for an "audience" of any kind, and we still must limit total numbers wherever possible. We look forward to getting the digital performance to you as soon as possible afterward!

How do I help my dancer practice at home?

You will still have access to Choreography Videos in the Parent Portal under Shared Files. However, some small changes may be implemented during the classes. Once classes resume, a better way to practice is to use just the music for your dancer's piece(s) - also in the Portal. Regular practice at home will really help your child, especially if they can practice immediately after class while it is fresh in their mind. If they feel overwhelmed because they can't remember their whole dance, encourage them to practice just the parts they do know.

Do we have to provide anything for our dancer?

Every dancer is required to have the appropriate Attire Basics for their level. See that section below.

Do we have classes after filming begins?

The last CLASS day is Sunday, July 12th. Sunday classes meet this week and not on Father's Day (June 21st). Some filming occurs July 11th & 12th so classes and filming do overlap.

No regular classes are held July 13 - 19 because these days are used exclusively for filming.

REQUIRED ATTIRE BASICS 

 

 

 

The items below can be found at Razzle Dazzle locally (34th and Bell near Stein Mart) or online at discountdance.com (if shopping at Discount Dance online, please use studio code 78113 to support Doxa!)

Please ensure your dancers have what they need before filming! Please do not wait to acquire these items, especially because shipping times may be lengthened or store hours may be limited.

Female Attire Basics

Tights: You can order tights through Doxa in the Parent Portal now through June 14th. Any clean pair of full-footed ballet pink or classic pink tights are acceptable (even if not purchased through Doxa). Previously purchased tights will be distributed in classes when we resume.
Ballet Shoes: All female dancers need pink ballet shoes. Please cut your dancer's elastic drawstring on their shoes to 1.5-2" in length, knot it to the desired tightness, and tuck the strings into the shoes. This gives a streamlined appearance and avoids the mishaps that happen when bows come untied.
Black Tank Leotard: Sweet Peas & Buttercups only: Sweet Peas and Buttercups need a plain black leotard to wear under costumes. TANK style is preferred this year for their particular costume.
Foundation Leotard: Daisies & Up: Daisies and up need a nude camisole leotard or body liner to wear underneath borrowed costumes, for modesty in dressing rooms and hygiene purposes.

Male Attire Basics

Tall Black Socks: All boys need crew or taller socks to wear with their shoes.
Ballet Shoes: All boys need black ballet shoes unless specified differently for their character.
Undergarments: All boys are encouraged to wear a brief-cut dance belt or compression shorts under their costume rather than regular underwear.
Black Tank Top: Older boys should wear a black tank top under their character costume(s), unless it shows.
White T-Shirt: Saplings and Oaks need a plain white clean t-shirt for the Market scene.

HAIR: 

For female dancers, hair should be worn in a ballet bun. Please consider getting that cute summer bob AFTER recital! Hairpieces will not work well with hair that doesn't go into a bun.

If you need help, here is a good YouTube video tutorial. Use hairspray or a hair gel, plenty of bobby pins, and for a nice finished look, a hairnet wrapped over the bun itself. Bring extra bobby pins for securing headpieces.

Boys should wear their hair nicely combed with gel to help it stay put.

MAKEUP, etc.: 

We leave it up to the parents as to whether or not they have their child wear makeup. However, we suggest dancers do wear a little bit.

Please refrain from using body or hair glitter as it can be distracting. No jewelry, except small stud earrings in a neutral color (silver, gold or clear rhinestone) if desired, unless specified for your character.

Please try to avoid temporary tattoos, face paint, or hair color in the weeks prior to recital - you never know what may not wash all the way off!

REGULAR CLOTHES & SHOES: 

For wearing over attire basics as your dancer arrives and for after they change out of their costume. Please do not let your dancer wear their ballet shoes outside! This makes them wear out faster, but also tracks extra dirt onto the stage and studio floors, which is dangerous for both themselves and for other dancers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We know this is a lot of information and a completely new process for all of us. We appreciate your grace as we have worked to fine-tune this idea and continued grace as we work out inevitable challenges moving forward. We love your dancers and are looking forward to completing this unusual season with them. We hope that the filming approach will allow many more to hear the story of Esther and the good news of Jesus our Savior, who goes before us and gave His life to save His people. Our fervent prayer is that God will use all of this for His glory!
