Character is a classical genre often represented in full-length ballets and has roots in several folk dance traditions - Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian, Italian, Hungarian, and Polish. Learning character dance technique can help a student develop a stronger stage presence and explore movement different from, but complementary to, ballet.
See Main Level pages for Tuition explanation.

Character classes change to Contemporary classes for the spring semester.
For female students, character requires a knee-length black character skirt and heeled black character shoes. These items are worn with a dancer's level color leotard or black leotard, and pink tights.
Male students should wear black jazz pants or jogger style athletic pants. Black jazz shoes are recommended (heel support) but black ballet shoes are also acceptable.
See dress code for more information on this policy and to view all levels.
Character (and other supplemental classes) do not perform in the recital at this time. However, examples of character dance are seen in Doxa's original story ballets, such as Esther and In A Nutshell.
